This is the collection to browse when you are buying for someone else. Everything here is built around a photograph of their animal — not a generic breed illustration, and not a mug with a paw print on it that will be at the back of a cupboard by March.

Because the piece is made around a photo, buying for someone else takes slightly more planning than an ordinary gift. It is worth doing, and it is not difficult.

Getting the photo without ruining the surprise

The most common obstacle is obvious: you need a picture, and the person you are buying for has it.

• Look where they have already posted. Be careful though — images downloaded from social platforms are compressed and often too small to enlarge well. Use them to decide which photo you want, then find the original.
• Ask a housemate, partner or parent. Someone else in the household usually has the same photo at full size.
• Ask them directly, vaguely. "Send me that one of the dog on the beach, I want it as my wallpaper" has worked for a great many of these orders.
• Ask them outright. A blanket someone helped choose the photo for is not a worse gift. It is often a better one, because the picture will be the right one.

Deciding what to put on it

You will need the animal's name spelled the way the household spells it, which is not always the obvious way. If there is a nickname that only they use, that is usually the better choice than the formal name — it is the thing that will make them react.

Keep any additional wording short. A name on its own almost always reads better than a name plus a sentence.

Choosing without them there

• Size: 50 x 60 in is the safe gift size. It fits a sofa, it suits one adult, and it does not commit them to anything.
• Finish: sherpa. It is heavier, warmer, and feels more substantial when unwrapped. Fleece is the practical choice for a blanket the animal will lie on, which is a different purchase.
• Design: if you are unsure, a single clear photo with the name beats a busy layout. Collage designs are better when you know the household well enough to pick several photos confidently.

Timing

Production takes 3–5 business days, then delivery is 5–10 business days in the United States and 4–15 to the other countries we ship to. For a birthday or a holiday, order at least three weeks ahead — more in December, when carriers slow down everywhere.

If the animal has died

Some of these are bought for someone who has just lost a pet, and the calculation is different. There is no wrong time, but there is a wrong photo — if you can, use one from before they were ill. The memorial designs are quieter and have room for a name and dates.

Choose a design, pick a size and a finish, and place the order. For a personalized design, enter your photos and wording exactly as you want them to appear; a proof is available on request — leave a note with your order or email info@hakhatu.com with your order number, and we will send one before production begins. Illustrated designs are printed exactly as shown.

Production: 3–5 business days, Monday to Friday. Delivery after production: 5–10 business days in the United States, 4–15 business days to the other countries we ship to. Looking after it

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with similar colours. Tumble dry on low heat or hang to dry. Do not bleach. Do not iron the design. Follow the care label supplied with the item; product-specific instructions take priority over this general guidance.

If something is wrong

Contact us within 14 days of delivery if the item is the wrong size, differs from the design shown or the details you submitted, or arrives damaged. Email info@hakhatu.com with your order number and clear photos. Once verified, we replace or refund at no cost to you, and in most cases you do not need to send anything back.

Items personalized with details you entered — a misspelled name, a wrong date, or a size chosen at checkout — cannot be taken back, so please review every field before you pay. To cancel, email us within 12 hours of ordering.
